Humankind is the latest strategy title from AMPLITUDE Studios and SEGA. The studio is responsible for the space strategy series Endless Space. The title has launched with praise from fans, and critics, with positive reviews all around. While the game has decent performance on PC, many players can’t seem to start the game at all. If you are facing the Humankind not launching issue, here is how you can fix that.
The game has Mostly Positive reviews on Steam at the moment, and the game had a peak player count of over 55K concurrent players according to Steam charts. Hopefully, the developers can patch the few issues players are facing in an update soon.
Fixing the Humankind not launching issue
If you are running into a crash at launch, please check out our other guide. These methods might work for that as well, but primarily, these are fixes for the game not launching at all. Players have complained about a pop window showing up, and closing without the game launching at all.
Here are the possible fixes for this problem.
Uninstall Epic Games Launcher
First, try uninstalling Epic Games Launcher entirely. This fix has worked for many users and will remove the conflict entirely with the launcher entirely.
For some reason, even the Steam version is tied to the Epic launcher when it comes to Humankind. Until the developers fix this problem, this is your best bet.
Run Steam, and Humankind as an admin
If uninstalling Epic Games Launcher didn’t help, you can try running both Steam and the Humankind executable as an admin. To do this, follow the steps below.
Run Steam as an admin
- Head over to the following location
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam
- Right click on steam.exe and select Properties
- Click the Compatibility tab
- Check “Run this program as an administrator“
Run Humankind as an admin
- Open Steam and then your library
- Here, right-click on Humankind
- Click Manage
- Then select Browse local files
- Right-click on Humankind.exe and select Properties
- Click the Compatibility tab
- Check “Run this program as an administrator“
Launch Steam again, and then Humankind. See if this made any difference.
Update DirectX and Visual C++ Redistributables
Ensure that both DirectX and Visual C++ Redistributables are on the latest version.
Out of all the fixes we mentioned above, the one with the best results is removing Epic entirely. Hopefully, the developers can release a fix soon that will allow users to reinstall it.
