The Heirlooms in Apex Legends are super rare skins that are tied to the different Legends within the game. Each Heirloom is unique and adds insanely cool melee attacks and inspect animations. They are purely cosmetic, though, and do not help you aim better, unlike using some of the best Apex Legends crosshair settings.

Apex Legends’ highly coveted Heirlooms can be obtained in multiple ways, one of which is by buying them using Heirloom Shards. This is our guide on how you can get Heirloom Shards in Apex Legends.

What’s in an Heirloom Set?

Heirloom Sets are some of the rarest cosmetics in all of Apex Legends. They are specifically designed for each Legend and are tied into their stories, characters, and origins. They are among the coolest and most hyped-up cosmetics in the game because of their rarity and stunning designs.

Each Heirloom Set comes with a melee weapon skin, a banner post, and a quip. Most quips are Intro Quips, aside from Pathfinder’s Heirloom Set, which contains a Kill Quip instead. Each set comes with unique animations

Your best bet to get an Heirloom set is by participating in the Collection Events and completing them. Each Collection Event will require you to collect a total of 24 different items. Everyone who has completed the Collection Event will get rewarded with the Heirloom Set for that event.

Once a Collection Event is finished, the respective Heirloom Set will be moved into the Mythic Store. This is where the Heirloom Shards come in handy. The Mythic Store is home to all the Heirloom Sets and can be purchased using 150 Heirloom Shards.

How to Get Heirloom Shards in Apex Legends?

A photo explaining Heirloom Shards in Apex Legends.

You can get Heirloom Shards by opening Apex Packs. Heirloom Shards come in sets of 150, which is the exact amount you need to unlock a single set. This means that once you are lucky enough to get an Heirloom Shard from an Apex Pack, you’re guaranteed to get at least one Heirloom Set.

Unfortunately, getting Heirloom Shards isn’t as easy as it sounds. Respawn Entertainment made it very hard to get Heirloom Shards inside Apex Packs. Every Apex Pack you open only has a less than 1% chance of containing 150 Heirloom Shards. So, you’ll need to be a very lucky person to get Heirloom Shards within your first few Apex Packs.

Luckily, Respawn didn’t make it too impossible to obtain Heirloom Shards in Apex Legends. There’s a mechanic where you are guaranteed 150 Heirloom Shards for every 500 Apex Packs that you open. So, if you’re a bad luck magnet and haven’t gotten any Heirloom Shards within your first 499 packs, you’re guaranteed shards in the next one.

If you’re lucky and/or rich enough to obtain all available Heirloom Sets, don’t waste your time opening Apex Packs. Heirloom Shards will no longer drop if you’ve already purchased all available Heirloom Sets in the Mythic Shop.
