Starfield has launched on PC without DLSS, even though AMD says there is no restriction placed by them. It’s sad to see both the DLSS and XeSS upscalers missing from the game, but fret not, because you can now install this Starfield DLSS mod to manually add the excellent NVIDIA upscaler to the game.

Install the Starfield DLSS Mod

The DLSS mod comes officially from PureDark, who have previously released different DLSS mods for games like Jedi Survivor, Elden Ring, and more. While they originally planned to charge for this mod, they’ve released it for free on NexusMods. Here is how you can install it.

Download the Mod

  • Sign up on NexusMods, so that you can download the mod files
  • Install Winrar or 7zip, to extract compressed files
  • Head over to the following link to download the Mod
  • Click on Manual Download on the Standalone version

Download the DLSS DLL

Finally, we need the latest DLL file for DLSS, which can be downloaded from TechPowerUp.

  • Head over to the following link
  • On the left, click on Download below NVIDIA DLSS DLL 3.5.0 (or whichever the latest version is)

Install the Mod

Now that we have the mod files, the DLSS dll, as well as the base plugin, we can easily install the DLSS mod in Starfield.

  • Head over to where Starfield is installed, and extract the StarfieldUpscaler mod zip file into the main folder. This will create a few folders as well.
  • Extract the UpscalerBasePlugin zip file separately, and copy the PDPerfPlugin.dll file into the UpscalerBasePlugin folder in the mods folder
  • Next, extract the nvngx_dlss_3.5.0 zip file separately, and copy the nvngx_dlss.dll file into the UpscalerBasePlugin folder in the mods folder as well

This is what the UpscalerBasePlugin folder should look like after you’re done.

That is all you need to do. Launch Starfield, and you can now press the END key on your keyboard to bring up the upscaler menu.

You NEED to enable FSR in the settings for this mod to work because it replaces that.

Credits and Support

All credits for the fix go to PureDark, and you can consider supporting them at Patreon.

We hope this guide was helpful, and that you can now install the Starfield DLSS mod to enable it in-game. If you have any questions, feel free to ask those below.
