Levelling up your skills and character is an integral part of just about any RPG game, and Baldur’s Gate 3 is no exception. Of course, most players tend to stick to their guns and level up organically, even if they don’t get to max out your BG3 run that way. However, If you really want to experience all that the game can offer,  you need to learn how to level up fast in Baldur’s Gate 3.

Fortunately for you, we’ve looked into the best tips to level up fast in Baldur’s Gate 3. In this guide, we’ll help you understand all the different ways to boost your XP gain, from farming opponents to utilizing “cheese” strategies.

1

Battle Everyone You Can

Fight Everyone You Can To Maximize XP Gain

Let’s be honest, no one wants to fight every mob they see. Some of them are too easy to warrant any hostility, and some of them are just too annoying to go through. However, picking fights is one of the best ways to level up in Baldur’s Gate, even if it takes up some of your sweet downtime.

All mobs drop some amount of XP – however little it may be. Over the course of a quest or a run, these numbers start racking up and can often make a difference.

This also means you’ll have to give in to a lifestyle of betrayal and bloodlust. You see, NPCs in Baldur’s Gate 3 are only useful as long as they’re part of the quest, have loot potential, or until their dialogue ends. After that, you’ll have to part ways and never see them again.

So, why not farm them for the little bit of XP they might give? Once you’re done interacting with an NPC, you can simply finish them if you don’t plan on having any further interaction. While this does mean you’ll have to grow into a heartless, bloodthirsty monster for the rest of your run, you do get a solid amount of XP for it.

2

Farm Low-Effort Enemies

Easier enemies are a great source of XP

Now, this one falls under the first tip, but there’s a slight caveat. Certain locations and quests have incredibly easy enemies, where they’ll often go down to a single blow. Sticking to a strategy of farming the low-effort mobs while avoiding the tougher bosses can go a long way in terms of XP.

In case you’re scared of random ambushes from higher-level mobs, don’t worry. You can stick to these three locations to make sure you don’t encounter anyone above your pay grade.

  • Goblin Camp
  • Shattered Sanctum
  • Underdark

Simply farm the Goblins and Duergar, and try to avoid bosses until you have the means to beat them.

3

Prioritize Easy Quests

Look through your Journal for easy quests

Baldur’s Gate 3 gives you the luxury of choosing your quests. You don’t have to stick to the main storyline throughout – taking a detour is always an option. So, if you’re not in a hurry to finish the storyline, completing little sidequests is a good way to farm some quick XP.

That way, you won’t have to keep restoring saves as you struggle through ridiculously hard bosses while also unlocking character skills that’ll last you the entire run.

4

Save Your Better Rounds

Save During Good Runs To Maintain Your Progress

While we’re on the topic of restoring saves, here’s another neat trick. Whenever the dice are rolling in your favor, and you’re on a hot streak, make sure you save your game to keep your progress. This is especially useful when you’re attempting a tougher quest since you’ll save time as well as get its XP much quicker.

5

Pass Skill Checks

Random Skill Checks Can Grant XP Points

Passing random skill checks, like unlocking chests, persuading your opponents, or even rolling for advantages, can give you a small bit of XP. While the amount for each skill check may be low, the numbers start to add up as you attempt every skill check available.

If you want to take this even a step further, you can download fast dice mods that’ll significantly speed up your dice rolls, saving you a tonne of time on those skill checks.

6

Pick On The Easier Bosses

Bosses Like Princess Gut Can Tactically be Outplayed For Easy XP

Not all bosses on Baldur’s Gate 3 are abhorrently difficult. You can take advantage of the incredible amount of XP they drop if you know which ones to fight. In fact, some bosses that you think are too tough for your level can actually be tactically outplayed.

Auntie Ethel in the Sunlit Wetlands is a prime example of this. You can knock her off the nearby cliff and claim all the XP for defeating her, although the method is quite cheesy and scummy.

7

Explore New Areas

Interact With Different Areas Of The Map

This is one of the simplest rules to follow when you’re trying to level up in Baldur’s Gate 3. Whenever there’s an area you haven’t explored, simply unlock it to claim a bit of XP and continue on your merry way.

You also get the added benefit of finding nice loot on the way. Items and other loot can significantly help you level up by making mobs and quests easier. If you’re too over-encumbered to carry these, try out mods that help you increase your carry weight.

8

Install Fast XP Mods

Certain mods speed up your XP gain

Finally, if you’re really adamant about levelling up, you can install some fast XP mods. The community has already designed mods that help you level up fast in Baldur’s Gate 3 or reduce your level-up requirements. If you feel like these won’t hinder your BG3 experience, feel free to give them a try.
