Lockpicking is a staple in Bethesda games. Luckily, the tradition continues in Starfield as well. However, it is surprisingly difficult to open up locks in the game. That is why this guide will show you how to lock pick in Starfield.

You will come across tons of locks while playing the game. Whether you want to enter someone’s residence or open up safes. With that said, let’s dive right in and get started.

Starfield: How to Lock Pick

Unlike the classic lock-pick minigame that most games offer, Starfield takes a different route. Instead of lockpicks, you will have to gather “Digipicks”. The more you have, the more can try your luck on unlocking doors or safes. Keep in mind that if you use a digipick and leave the minigame, you’ll lose that digipick forever.

The easiest way to explain this minigame is that you have to match the keys with the empty rings. There are multiple layers of the rings and the more difficult the lock is, the harder it will be to match the key.

You can find various rewards for opening locks. Whether you open locked doors or safes, you can get rare loot and even complete certain optional objectives.

You get a preset of keys in each minigame that you have to spin around and fill the holes with. Once the keys line up with the opening in the circle, you can move on to the next layer or key.

Even if you open one layer, you can still lose the minigame if the remaining keys don’t match with the circle. So, you’ll have to be extremely careful while opening locks. Instead of opening the first layer with whatever key fits first, you should look at all your options to see if you can open the remaining layers as well.

Advanced locks take more keys to unlock, and are naturally more difficult.

Also, keep in mind that since there are multiple difficulties depending on the lock, you need to have the relevant skill level to open them. Novice locks can be opened by anyone but if you want to try Advanced, Expert, or Master, you’ll have to level up your Security skill.

  • Cyberneticist

  • Industrialist

Conclusion

That’s everything you need to know about how to lock pick in Starfield. There are tons of locks present in the game that you can try to pry open. Some are quite difficult but with enough skill and effort, you can lock-pick them.
