The latest version of Honkai Star Rail is now available to pre-load, but similar to Genshin Impact, the actual update process can be quite tedious. The launcher isn’t in the best shape and can lead to a host of different errors. We have you covered though, and if you want to manually update to Honkai Star Rail 1.3.
Manually Update to Honkai Star Rail 1.3
The download links provided in this guide are direct links from miHoYo servers. These are completely safe to use and are the same ones the launcher connects to as well. We don’t personally host the files.
Please keep in mind that this guide assumes you are on version v1.2.
Required Downloads for 1.3
You only need to download this update patch file from the link below.
- Honkai Star Rail 1.3 Patch (9.61 GB)
Updating to 1.3
Once the download is complete, the actual updating process is fairly simple this time around.
- Head over to where Honkai Star Rail is installed, it’s usually the following:
C:\Program Files\Star Rail
- Here, open the Games folder
- Now, place the zip file you downloaded in the Games folder
- Run the launcher, and it should be able to verify the file placed and pre-update the game accordingly.
- If you have done everything right, it will say “Game Pre-Installation Completed“
That’s all you need to do to pre-install the latest update for Honkai Star Rail. It’s also possible that your launcher will be updated during this process which is completely normal.
Important Things To Consider
- DON’T EXTRACT THE FILES. If you want to keep playing till update 1.3 is officially out. You’ll need to ensure that you don’t extract the files manually. If you extract the files, you won’t be able to play till the update is live.
- After the patch goes live, you might have to download additional files in-game. This is normal.
- The files provided in this guide are being downloaded directly from MiHoYo servers. This means that these are entirely safe and from the developers themselves.

I hate that even after downloading this, the game is going to download a few GBs of additional data when the update is live. I think it’s the download for the voice data, which explains why it was not included in the pre-installation, unlike Genshin.
Hey, yeah, currenly the game isn’t big enough for them to divide it into parts. I agree that it would be a bit more convinient.
When the additional download is already measured in gigabytes (more than 3GB in my case), I consider it already big enough to be made available in preinstallation files. I don’t know how it was during the early days of Genshin, and I noticed Genshin too would download additional data with each update, but in my experience, the additional download never exceeded 1GB. Sorry for the rant. I just had to vent it out, hoping someone would understand the pain.
