How to Plant Fruit in Animal Crossing?

To plant fruit in Animal Crossing, you need to dig a hole using a shovel. Then, whilst standing next to the hole, select the fruit in your inventory and click ‘plant’. Your character will then use the shovel to plant the fruit in the hole – blossoming into a beautiful fruit tree in three days!

As mentioned, you will need a shovel to plant fruit in Animal Crossing. I have a short guide for how to get a shovel, and you just need some iron and other common materials.

What Fruit Can You Plant in Animal Crossing: New Horizons?

In AC: NH, you can plant any type of fruit into a fruit tree. This includes:

  • Apples
  • Cherries
  • Peaches
  • Coconuts
  • Pears
  • Oranges

Your island will have a native fruit that grows naturally on your island; however, you can plant all the others as well. Acquiring non-native fruit just requires visiting mystery islands, or trading with generous players.

You can also easily acquire fruit from either Nook’s Cranny or shaking fruit trees when they have fruit. Planting a piece of fruit will turn into a fruit tree sapling, which will then take three days to grow into a tree. You don’t need to water these, as it won’t speed up the growth process.

Once a tree is ready to bear fruit, you can just shake it to have the fruit drop. The fruit will then take three days to grow back once you have taken all the fruit.

Fruit can be eaten to increase your well-fed meter, which can be used to dig up trees or break rocks. You can also use fruit in a plethora of DIY recipes including furniture items and tasty food! Fruit can also be sold for Bells at Nook’s Cranny. Native fruit sells for 100 Bells each, whereas non-native fruit sells for 500 Bells each. This excludes coconuts that sell for 250 Bells each.

A fun build to make now that you have learned how to plant fruit in Animal Crossing is an orchard. I created a small apple tree orchard once, that I would harvest the fruit and sell for a steady income of Bells. Apples were not my island’s native fruit, so I got the maximum of 500 Bells per apple.

Hopefully, now you have a solid understanding of how to plant fruit in Animal Crossing. If you have enjoyed this guide and found it informative, I have a bunch more Animal Crossing guides that you can check out here. Happy crossing!
