The Callisto Protocol is a survival horror game that has caught the eyes of many players. It is quite similar to Dead Space with its over-the-shoulder camera and gameplay. As such, many Xbox players are wondering if The Callisto Protocol is on Game Pass or not.
No, The Callisto Protocol is not on Game Pass at launch. The developers have stated that it would be a “difficult fit” for the service.
If you are curious to know more about the game and its release time on the Xbox, continue reading to find out. With that said, let’s dive right in and get started.
The Callisto Protocol: Is It on Game Pass?
As aforementioned, The Callisto Protocol is not available on Game Pass at launch. While this might sound disappointing, the developers gave a good reason behind this move. In an interview with TrueAchievements, Striking Distance Studios’ CTO, Mark James, stated that “as a single-player linear game, it’s really hard to be successful in those types of services.”
Xbox Game Pass is a wonderful subscription service that offers hundreds of games at an extremely low price. However, it can be a loss for certain single-player games since they do not benefit that much from this service.
Not all hope is lost, though. The devs have suggested that they will “think about it.” So, we might see The Callisto Protocol make its way on the Xbox Game Pass in the future. However, as of right now, there are no chances of the game being on the service.
You play through once [in The Callisto Protocol]. I think those services are built towards some of the open-world style and repetitive multiplayer games. I think games [like that] survive well on that service.Mark James, CTO, Striking Distance Studios
That’s not to say that single-player games cannot be successful on the Game Pass, but as an independent studio, it doesn’t sound like the most profitable scenario.
That’s everything to know about is The Callisto Protocol coming to Game Pass. While the game will not be on the service at launch, we might see it there later down the road. We can understand why the devs are hesitant to release a single-player indie experience on the Game Pass for now.
