Lighthouse Building Idea

Lighthouse Minecraft building design

The ocean can be a terrifying place. Luckily, lighthouses guide faraway ships into the safety of the coastline with its high and lustrous glow.

This Overgrown Minecraft Lighthouse by Meddi is one of those Minecraft building ideas that excels in both form and function.

Aside from its compact and tall design, its light source shines a translucent pale yellow light at the top of the building—more than enough to guide ships and boats in even the darkest of nights.

Elevated Modern House

Elevated Modern House - Minecraft building idea

This Elevated Modern House by JINTUBE is a wonderful rendition of a high-luxury modern estate.

A grand and regal-looking staircase greets you as you approach the end of the hedged walkway. Inside the home, you can see modern and minimalistic elements mixed together, creating a lovely ambiance that oozes luxury and glamor. And if the interior doesn’t cut it, an infinity pool with a sunbathing area outside can provide you a moment of respite, perfect for watching sunsets and sunrises.

Waterfall House

Waterfall house building idea

Imagine exiting your home and hearing the gentle stream of water flowing on both sides. Relaxing, isn’t it? The Waterfall House by SheepGG offers a unique take on playing with water to spruce up your living space.

Aside from the Skinned Wooden Log designs pleasantly providing contrast, the mini garden looks equally gorgeous, accentuating the build with a natural, glossy look. Of course, the lanterns behind the water add a mystical and hypnotizing presence too.

Minecraft Carpet Designs

This carpet is one of many amazing Minecraft Building Ideas.

The temptation is always to fill your Minecraft house with a block color carpet. But, alas, there are a few serious issues that come with that. The first and arguably most important is that it doesn’t look great.

At least, mine looked terrible for the longest time. But then I caught this episode of Build Hacks from YouTuber ReytGood. The video shows off tutorials for putting together 6 unique carpet designs.

Not only can these add a breath of fresh air to your build. They can also make your rooms seem bigger if you’ve been constrained while building.

Cliff House Building Design

Watching the sunrise or sunset can be a great way to cool down and destress after a long day. Having a house that allows you to live that reality as you look outside the window or step outside the balcony? Even better.

This Hanging Cliff House by Random Steve Guy allows you to watch the horizon from up above. The materials needed aren’t too rare and can be found in the overworld—namely Wooden Planks, Glass Panes, and Wood. And a mountain face, too, of course.

Your First Desert House

This desert house is awesome. This is one of many amazing Minecraft Building Ideas!

Many players like to build their Survival houses in grassy biomes, forests, and even marshes and cliffs. But Minecraft players notoriously shy away from building their bases in deserts.

The reason why is simple. It is a lot harder to make your house look good when it is yellow and surrounded by yellow. Between sand, sandstone, and sandstone bricks, there doesn’t seem to be much of a difference visually.

But check out this idea for an awesome desert house from YouTuber Julious. It implements aspects you’d expect to see in high-quality grassland builds but adapted for the vast Minecraft deserts.

Try it out and let us know how you get on.

Castle Walls

Okay… maybe it is just me, but I love building huge walls around my Minecraft bases.

Turning a secluded little hut with a few surrounding structures into a truly medieval keep is an absolute blast. But by far my favorite part is the vast wall that needs to surround it. Especially when you are using all manner of materials and adornments to make it look truly unique. If you, too, would like to get in on the action – and, let’s be honest, why wouldn’t you? Check out this jumbo tutorial by Mysticat, which shows off five fantastic and innovative wall designs.

Outside Village Decorations

These outside village decorations are one of many epic Minecraft ideas.

I remember when Mojang first introduced generated villages filled with villagers. The thing that always impressed me the most was how well put together they seemed. They didn’t just seem like a bunch of prepared structures. Those villages had depth and personality.

There are a lot of great ways to decorate your base structures to turn them into something more aesthetically pleasing, but I am fond of these tutorials from BBlocks and BlueNerd Minecraft.

From gazebos to benches to flowerbeds, there is more than enough here for you to get your teeth stuck into and to fill up an afternoon of beautifying your base!

They may seem simple, but these are some great Minecraft building ideas.

Doghouse

A doghouse is one of the many cool things to build in Minecraft!

Friends, nothing will ever hurt you as much as the passing of your first Minecraft dog. With you through thick and thin, your furry friend will love you, defend you, and fight for you.

Because of that, you would be well served to give your dog the best accommodations possible. This external doghouse tutorial by Yohey the Android is one of my favorites.

If you are looking for something a little more modern, here is an alternative Doghouse tutorial from TSMC – Minecraft

Greenhouse

Minecraft greenhouse building idea

A greenhouse may sound silly, considering how anything can be grown outdoors in Minecraft. But think about it: this is a fantasy world and you can do anything you want. Want to build a greenhouse in the middle of a forest? Be my guest.

This Greenhouse design by BlueNerd Minecraft is built with simple materials—some Quartz Blocks, a few Wooden stairs, and some fences. Of course, a bunch of plants and flowers add an organic touch too.

Minecraft Playground

This working playground is one of the fun things to build in Minecraft!

There are a couple of great decorative features already on this list and a bunch of new ones that are just coming up. But very few of them are functional as well as decorative.

This isn’t the case with Magma’s working Minecraft playground tutorial, which is one of the coolest things I’ve seen built in Minecraft.  Featuring a wooden climbing frame, monkey bars, sandpit, and a slide, this will make a great addition to any Minecraft village or community.

This is one of my favorite Minecraft building ideas on this list.

Medieval Church

Medieval church in Minecraft

If you’re planning to build a castle town or any other village, you might want to consider a place where the villagers can practice their devotion towards a faith.

This Medieval Church by BlueNerd Minecraft is the perfect building for that! You can have it repurposed as a ceremonial area, a gathering spot, or even a spooky castle at night. The components to build it aren’t too heavy either—just a couple of Cobblestone blocks, some Wooden Stairs, and a few plants to spruce the garden up.

Waterfall House

Have you ever played an open-world video game, stumbled upon a waterfall, and just had that tingly feeling that there’s a secret cave behind it?

If you can’t relate, then perhaps you should explore your games a little more. This Waterfall Modern House by Random Steve Guy pays tribute to the gamers that stumble upon hidden coves and crevices behind nondescript areas. Having your home behind a secret passageway adds a layer of mystery and exclusivity that feels tantalizing to venture into.

The World’s Smallest Minecraft House

I love Minecraft build ideas like these tiny houses!

A lot of the zanier ideas so far have been gigantic Minecraft houses. But what if you want to build the smallest Minecraft house possible?

A good place to start would be this awesome tutorial for a stylish minimalist home design from Random Steve Guy, which features a truly shocking number of amenities for such a small package.

However, some may even argue this is too big. I’ve seen smaller houses out there, but that will ruin the fun. How small can you make your Minecraft house? Let us know in the comments!

Simple Boat Starter House

This boat starter house is one of many epic Minecraft ideas.

A starter house is usually kind of a blight on the landscape that you will likely destroy as soon as possible.

However, here is a unique idea that you’ll want to keep around long after you upgrade. This simple Boat House tutorial by YouTuber Nexty is compact, rustic, and a surprisingly sensible security option. For avoiding mobs and gaining the upper hand on any PvP intruders, you couldn’t do much better. When you are building a beginner’s Survival base, you could make good use of the Minecraft Duplication Glitch, still active in 2021!

A Massive Windmill

This windmill is a great idea for your next Minecraft projects.

If you have a base built on farmland, your home structure is essentially calling out for an awesome-looking windmill to steal the show.

This in-depth tutorial from WalkTheWaffle walks you through every step of the process. From living quarters to suspended pieces that give the illusion that the windmill is spinning, the detail and scale make it one of the most attractive builds I’ve seen in some time.

This is one to try out as you proceed later in the game. It is MASSIVE, too. If you are looking for something similar but a little more subtle, this tutorial from Akila Gaming may help.

Minecart System

This automatic railway is one of many amazing Minecraft Building Ideas.

If you are looking for something complex, extremely fun to build, and useful beyond comprehension, look no further than this fully automated Minecart transport system tutorial by Cubey.

From a base departure system, players can launch Minecarts to any location in their world. It can carry either themselves or chests of items, making it extraordinarily useful for transporting building materials from your storage base to your latest build site.

Perhaps the Redstone wiring may be a little complex, but the time investment will certainly be worth it in the long run.

Mining Camp

This Mine Base is a great idea for your next Minecraft projects.

Mining is one of the most enjoyable parts of playing Minecraft. But I’m not afraid to admit that, at times, I can grow a little bit used to it. This is especially true when it comes to designing my mines, where staircases cut in mountains unannounced are the norm.

That is, up until I saw this awesome Mining Camp tutorial from Reimiho, with a crafting station, custom lighting, and even a massive crane to sell the aesthetic!

Usually, mining is something I do in preparation for the later stages of the game. But if I planned a mining camp like this for my next few Minecraft projects, I’m not sure I’d ever been out of it!

Realistic Bathroom Design

Realistic Bathroom Design

Many Minecraft projects don’t have to involve massive structural undertakings, though. Others could just be new ways to think about building. Take a look at this awesome idea for realistic bathroom furniture from this tutorial from MCram for a perfect example!

Of course, unless you have some sort of urination mod, there is no need for a bathroom or toilet. But if you were to add one, it would add a new element to your base. It could even be a lot of fun to come up with original designs!

Vending Machines, Arcade Cabinets, and More

These decorations are a few of the fun things to build in Minecraft!

A big problem I’ve had when filling my Minecraft houses is that I often have a lot of free space and not a lot of cool ideas to fill it with. A fence-and-pressure-plate table and chairs, maybe. But it would be cool to be able to include vending machines, arcade cabinets, kitchen furniture, and more.

Both Volume 1 and Volume 2 of this series by BlenDigi feature instructions for crafting all of the above.

Unfortunately, none of them will be functional. But they will still look amazing when you have finished putting together your blocky man cave.

80 of the Best Minecraft Building Ideas

So, there we have it! 80 cool things to build in Minecraft the next time you are struck by a bout of builder’s block.

There is an insane range of Minecraft building ideas here. But one important thing to remember is that your next Minecraft projects don’t all need to be massive undertakings.

Part of the fun of the game is finding ways to fundamentally change your experience, like spawning in a foreign biome or attempting to thrive in the nether.

Finally, have you heard of Drag Clicking? It’s a great new method for gaining a competitive edge in combat situations. Here is our comprehensive guide to Drag Clicking and our guide to the Best Mouse for Drag Clicking in 2021.
