While many fans are enjoying the current open beta for Modern Warfare 2, it seems that some news slipped under the radar, and we hate being the bearer of bad news. Modern Warfare 2 is coming packed with Content Packs. Similar to the install model used by Call of Duty Modern Warfare, Cold War, and Vanguard, but this is their biggest yet, clocking in at 6 content packs.

Modern Warfare 2 Brings Back Content Packs – It’s going to be a big package

When it comes to Call of Duty, the one thing that the studio is known for, is complicating the install process.

The entire mess of content packs started back with Modern Warfare in 2019, and from there, has only gotten worse. Where Modern Warfare would label the content, Cold War and Vanguard removed the labeling and you would need all packs downloaded AND installed to launch the game.

We are now in 2022, and Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 is right around the corner. I was browsing the store on my Xbox Series S, and I came to a discovery that Modern Warfare 2 will host 6 content packs.

For comparison, Modern Warfare had 4 content packs (that were labeled), Cold War had 4 content packs, and Vanguard had 5 content packs.

2018’s Call of Duty Black Ops 4, and the preceding entries in the series only told players to install a base game version and be done with it. However, after 2019’s Modern Warfare, the content packs were introduced with the illusion that they will allow players to install what they want.

The practice had a good pilot run with Modern Warfare but unfortunately was replaced with succeeding entries when the content packs were just given numerical labels instead.

This could also potentially mean that Modern Warfare 2 will take a sizeable bite out of your storage, and considering how we are still in the early days of storage options for the current-gen consoles, you should start emptying out space for the game right away if you plan on keeping it.
