However, a recent tweet by the official twitter account may have confirmed the return of tag-team matches in Mortal Kombat 1. A feature that has been absent since Mortal Kombat 9.
Mortal Kombat 1 and Tag-Team Matches – A Match Made In Outworld?
Mortal Kombat 1 is set to show its gameplay in under 2 weeks, and also release later this year in September. The game also is a reboot and is looking to pave the way for a new generation of fighters on the new console generation.
While Mortal Kombat X and 11 were fantastic games, the removal of tag-team matches on consoles that were more sophisticated than the PS3, which was able to give us tag-team matches in the 2011 title, Mortal Kombat 9, greatly soured fans, but it seems the title could bring back 2v2 matches.

The company cleared up that they will test out 1v1 matches, implying the existence of 2v2 matches as a potential way to play the game on release. While we will have to wait a while for more official details, we can say we are keenly excited to see what lies in wait.
