So far, the new Nintendo Switch revision is only rumored to exist. Nintendo has time and again denied the existence of the console but many industry analysts and insiders argue that there is indeed one. With the release of Nintendo Switch software update 12.0.0, there are a few mentions of what could be the Nintendo Switch Pro.
Nintendo Switch Pro – Myth or Waiting to happen?
We have talked about an improved Nintendo Switch time and again. With many gaming industry leakers and analysts all agreeing that the console’s hardware is too outdated to keep up with current ports, hardware revamp is long overdue.
According to an ardent few who take data mining and dissecting software to the next level, there seems to be mention of what could be a Nintendo Switch Pro or otherwise.
It’s worth mentioning that there is a very limited library of games that offers 60 FPS on the Nintendo Switch when it comes to third-party titles. Its no secret that unless you are Panic Button or Saber Interactive, your game will have a hard time keeping up with the other versions of the game on other consoles.
Ghostrunner is the best example of this which greatly sacrificed visual quality and performance, and again with Apex Legends.
In a time when the other consoles are running the same game at 60, many studios have to struggle to get their games run at 30 FPS on Nintendo’s dated hardware for the Nintendo Switch.
First-party titles have no issues running on the console at a good performance either, but with the recent release of the PS5 and Xbox Series consoles, the games will only get more demanding and their Nintendo Switch ports will continue to suffer as a result.
With yesterday’s announcement of E3 2021, and Nintendo being one of the biggest backers and names in the list, the event would be an opportune time to announce a Nintendo Switch successor or an upgraded model similar to that of the 3DS and the 3DSXL.
For now, we can only hope that Nintendo realizes the importance of improving the hardware on their consoles, and fast.
