Season 18 brought with it a whole bunch of changes, including the introduction of a brand new item drop – an Opulent Key. Destiny 2 players are no strangers to cryptic items and locked chests, but these Opulent Keys can get annoying. Not only are there six different keys, but each one only opens one corresponding chest.

Rather than spending what could be hours searching the Derelict Leviathan for these chests, I’ve put each one’s location, as well as what key each chest takes, below. I’ve also included a map for both the Pleasure Gardens and Royal Pools that highlights the location of each chest, so don’t worry about having to follow random screenshots.

What are Opulent Keys Destiny 2?

Opulent Keys are a new item introduced with Season 17, Season of the Haunted. They can drop from the following activities aboard the Derelict Leviathan:

  • Destination Chests
  • Haunted Alcove Chests
  • Nightmare Containment Rewards Chests

Opulent Keys are used to open one of six Opulent Chests. There are three chests in the Pleasure Gardens, and three chests in the Royal Pools. There are no Opulent Chests in the Castellum.

Each Opulent Key has a clue attached to it when you inspect it in your inventory. This clue tells you which of the six chests the key unlocks. I’ve included which clue is for which chest below, so don’t worry about figuring that out yourself.

Opulent Chest Locations Destiny 2

Given the Derelict Leviathan’s nature as a patrol zone, we don’t actually have an in-game map for it, so I can’t annotate the area in its current state. What we do have, though, are the old fan-made maps of the Leviathan raid.

While the areas aren’t exactly the same as they once were, the general layout is more or less identical. So, I’ve used these old maps and marked the location of each chest, as well as the entrances to the areas. I hope you can bear with that little bit of jury-rigging.

The layout of the Royal Pools is pretty much the same as it was back in the days of the Leviathan raid. You’ve got A central roofed area, an open area to the left of that, and an enclosed area connecting to its right.

  • Clue: Among Stately Columns

If you enter the Royal Pools from the Pleasure Gardens, you’ll come through a side passage on the right side of the Pools (where the Spear and Cup plates were back in the raid). There should be a small set of steps in front of you, up the steps, and to the right is the first Royal Pools Opulent Chest.

If you’re entering the Pools from the Castellum, enter the central building and turn right. This Royal Pools Opulent Chest should be in front of you with a large Calus Statue to your right, outside the center area.

There is only one area connected to the center that is indoors, so it shouldn’t be too hard to find.

  • Clue: Where Water Used to Fall

Opulent Chest two in the Royal Pools is in the back left of the area. It’s directly across the arena from chest one. Enter the central building and turn your back to chest one, walk directly forward out of the building and you should be able to see this chest almost instantly.

  • Clue: At the Feet of Greatness.

This Royal Pools Opulent Chest will be the first one you see if you enter the area from the Castellum. If you came in from the Pleasure Gardens, it will be the last one.

Just outside the center building, in front of the door to the Castellum, you’ll see a large Calus Statue. The Opulent Chest is sitting right next to it.

Like the Royal Pools, the Pleasure Gardens haven’t changed all that much since way back when. Once you enter the area, head straight to the saferoom and stand on top of it. From there, you’ll be able to see all three of the Pleasure Gardens Opulent Chests.

  • Clue: Guarded by a Loyal Companion

The first Opulent Chest in the Pleasure Gardens is right next to the old saferoom from the raid. Regardless of what way you came in from, go stand on top of the saferoom and turn around to look at the door back towards the Castellum.

From this position, you’ll be able to see all three Pleasure Garden Opulent Chests. The first one is directly to your right, off the safe room, and next to a dog statue.

Clue: Among the Ruins

From the safe room, turn around to face the door leading to the Castellum, look slightly to your right and you’ll be able to see the second Pleasure Garden Opulent Chest.

Clue: By Fallen Greatness

From the safe room, looking towards the Castellum door, head left. From a high vantage point, you’ll be able to see a ruined Calus statue head. The chest is directly in front of that head.

That’s all six Opulent Chests currently available in Destiny 2. We’ve only got access to the Pleasure Gardens and Royal Pools in the Levithan patrol zone at the moment, but we have seen the other areas in missions. The Sever – Shame mission takes place in the Gauntlet, for example. So, if we ever get access to those areas with patrols, this guide will be updated with the new Opulent Chest locations.
