The Psychonauts 2 official rating is up on the Games Rating Board of Brazil. Even though the game has been rated for Windows, Mac, PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PS4, we have a version missing from the bunch – Psychonauts 2 For PS5.

Psychonauts 2 For PS5 – Missing in action?

According to the Brazil Games Rating Board, Psychonauts 2 has been rated for a broad number of gaming systems, but one of the oddest things here is the lack of a PS5 version.

Microsoft publishing is no stranger to branching out outside of Xbox and PC, with games like Cuphead and Ori’s Sequel on Switch. This also includes the more recent release of Cuphead on the PS4.

Psychonauts 2 is coming to Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and the PC. One would have thought that making a game optimized for the PS5 first and then the PS4 would be simpler.

This was the case for many cross-generation games on Sony’s consoles. Games like Bugsnax, Oddworld: Soulstorm, Spider-Man: Miles Morales, and many others. This isn’t the case for Psychonauts for PS5 however.

The PS5 also launched in Brazil officially shortly after the global launch. It’s not possible to say that the missing rating is because the console hasn’t officially launched in the region.

We have no doubt that Double Fine Productions is aiming to put out the best version across all platforms. But it’s still very puzzling why the PS5 version isn’t listed.

For now, we do know that Psychonauts 2 pre-load went early for a lot of users. Many people are expecting the game to be a surprise release from Microsoft during E3. However, we still don’t know if that is what the current situation could look like.

This doesn’t mean you won’t be able to play it on PS5, but it will run in backward compatibility mode. This means you won’t be able to take advantage of the PS5’s features that are otherwise on the Xbox Series X.
