Eidos Montreal are best known for their work on the Deus Ex games in the current and previous generation. They were also the lead developers on 2018’s Shadow of the Tomb Raider. However it seems that a former employee may have revealed that the studio is fully focused on the upcoming Avengers game and has no plans of releasing a new Deus Ex anytime soon.

Could Eidos be working on more than one Marvel game?

According to a tweet, it seems that a former employee with Eidos Montreal has confirmed that its all hands on deck for Marvel projects. The company isn’t focused on any other project.

In addition, it seems that the studio could be working on a new AI that does procedural map generation. However, details on the latter are scarce.

A few years ago, Kotaku’s Jason Schreier wrote on a rumor that Eidos could be working on a Guardians of the Galaxy game.

In his report, he further affirmed that the future of Deus Ex also appears murky. Considering the last we heard from Eidos about Deus Ex was 2016 with Mankind Divided, it seems that the 2017 report still holds true.

Marvel’s Avengers, the current project being worked on by Eidos Montreal, is scheduled for release on 4th September, 2020. This will also be the quarter of the year where we can expect Sony and Microsoft to unveil and release their next-generation consoles. The PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X.

Cyberpunk 2077 is also slated for release on September 17, 2020. Whether or not the success of Cyberpunk will inspire Eidos to give Deus Ex a second chance could help bring the title back from the dead.

Hopefully we will see more of Adam Jensen, or Deus Ex in the next generation of consoles, as a release on the current-gen systems looks highly unlikely.

While the series has never made Square Enix see profit the way the studio makes money from the more successful Tomb Raider franchise, the fan base around the series is still very strong. We can only hope that Deus Ex does make a comeback, and doesn’t just phase out.
