Sonic Frontiers is getting a lot of attention on SteamDB lately, particularly a change of release date on the platform from 1st September 2022 to 8th November 2022. Unfortunately, that is not the only addition to the game – It appears that the game has also gotten the controversial Denuvo DRM added into the fray.

Sonic Frontiers Release Date and Denuvo added

It seems that Sonic Frontiers’ release date has been updated in SteamDB, and unfortunately the game has also been tacked on with Denuvo DRM, a controversial system that has been known to hamper games’ performance in the past.

From what we have seen on Sonic Frontiers so far, fans agree in unison that the game needs to go back to the drawing board and get a lot more polish, but Sega strongly disagrees and urges fans to play the finished game before passing judgment. As such, only time will tell if we will finally get a 3D Sonic game that actually does well.

Admittedly, the game does look a lot better than previous entries, but the gameplay look is somewhat striking a wrong chord with fans. While Sega is determined on releasing the game in 2022 and is not looking to change the game in the slightest, we can only hope to either be wrong about the game once it is properly released later in the year.

Sonic Frontiers will be the first time in a long time that the game takes an open-world approach to the series and lets Sonic explore the challenges around the world at his leisure. While the player agency is a key feature of the new entry, it still has a very rough approach to it that is worrying fans.

For now, the SteamDB is not a conclusive source of information, and while we will still need to hear from SEGA for official confirmation on a release date or more conclusive evidence of Denuvo DRM included in the title, we can hope to see future gameplay videos for the game to prove us wrong on Sonic Frontiers.
