LA Noire Steam Deck

L.A. Noire, one of the best open-world detective titles published by Rockstar is still officially stuck at 30 FPS on PC, but there have been patches by dedicated fans ever since to unlock that framerate. Now with the Steam Deck in our hands, it’s easier to cruise 1940’s LA solving one murder case after another on the go. Here is how you can play LA Noire at 60 FPS on the Steam Deck, and PC.

LA Noire 60 FPS Mode on Steam Deck

To play LA Noire at 60 FPS on the Steam Deck, we’ll need to use the V-Patch created by VaanaCZ. This is quite easy to set up, and I’ll go through the steps on how you can do this.

  • First, make sure you’ve fully downloaded and installed LA Noire through Steam
  • Now, press the STEAM button on the left of the device, and select Power, followed by Switch to Desktop

  • This will take you to the Desktop Mode
  • Now, open a browser like Firefox, and head over to the following GitHub link
  • Click on the latest release to download the V-Patch (LaNoireVPatch_1.1b.zip)

That’s all you need to do, and the next time you launch LA Noire, it will run at 60 FPS on the Steam Deck. Here is a shot that I took with my phone camera because Steam Deck doesn’t show the performance overlay in screenshots.

For PC, the method is practically the same, and all you need to do is copy the dinput8.dll file from the LaNoireVPatch_1.1b.zip by VaanaCZ into LA Noire’s installation folder.

  • Head over to the following GitHub link
  • Click on the latest release to download it (LaNoireVPatch_1.1b.zip)

Other Features and Caveats

There are multiple features that come with this patch that can be further adjusted. To do this, you can edit the lanvp.ini file, which is generated after you launch the game with the patch. Some of these features are:

  • Ultrawide support
  • Custom FOV
  • Unlocked aspect ratios (16:10, 4:3, 5:4, etc.)
  • Borderless window
  • Custom resolutions

While the 60 FPS patch works perfectly for the most part, keep in mind that there are some caveats that come with it. First, the driving is a bit more sensitive, and some of the facial animations might not always look as natural since the game was designed with 30 FPS in mind.

Thankfully, you can always disable the mod through the configuration file (lanvp.ini), and re-enable it if you’re running into any issues with certain activities or missions. You can read more of the known issues here, but rest assured, you can certainly beat the entire game with FPS unlocked.
