Valorant has witnessed unprecedented popularity since its release. We all play the game regularly and consume content related to its lore, leaks, and more. So, it should come naturally to know something as simple as the meaning of Valorant, right?

The Origin of Valorant
Let’s first discuss where the term “Valorant” comes from. Surprisingly, the word “Valorant” actually exists. It is only used in the Catalan dialect, a region found in Spain, where it means “to value.” However, that does seem like a bit too niche to be the primary name of a game.
If we look further, we can deduce that there is another possible root word for “Valorant.” It comes from the English word “valor.” A quick search will give us the definition of “great courage in the face of danger, especially in battle.” Now, this sounds more like the Valorant we all know and love.
Riot Games has never confirmed the true meaning of “Valorant,” but it’s highly likely that it does come from “valor.” I mean, fighting with bullets is already scary enough. Add to it going against Radiants/Radiant-empowered beings with a Spike that wipes out everything in its path. Now, that definitely requires a ton of courage.
Valorant’s Definition According to the Lore
Riot has been building up the lore in recent patches. Unfortunately, there still hasn’t been any confirmation of what exactly the word “Valorant” means. However, we know that the term exists within the game since most of the playable agents are part of a team called the “VALORANT Protocol.”
Sage even shouts the word out loud during one of her voice lines. “Stand Tall. We are Valorant. We are fighters!” Sage sometimes exclaims at round start. This means that the Agents also call themselves “Valorant.”
The VALORANT Protocol is an underground organization that deals with the threats caused by the First Light event. The organization’s origins are still unknown, and whoever created it is the only one who can accurately answer the question, “What is the meaning of Valorant?”
