In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, there are different rarities of the catchable creatures; including fish. Obviously, the rarer the fish, the higher the number of Bells it fetches when sold. So, just what is the rarest fish in Animal Crossing then? Continue reading to find out!

What is The Rarest Fish in Animal Crossing?

What is the rarest fish in Animal Crossing

The rarest fish in Animal Crossing: New Horizons is tied between the Coelacanth and the Great White Shark. Both fetch a whopping 15,000 Bells when sold to Nook’s Cranny and are the hardest fish to catch in the game.

Coelacanth

Coelacanths are one of the rarest fish to catch in the game as they only spawn when it is raining. Even then, there is still no guarantee that you will find one. Coelacanths can be caught on your island or on mystery islands, provided it is raining. Despite being one of the rarest fish in the game, Coelacanths are available year-round!

These fish can be found in the sea surrounding an island and have a large shadow. Did you know that coelacanths have been found fossilized from 410 million years ago? That explains the prehistoric look!

Great White Shark

The infamous Great White Shark is another super rare fish belonging to the shark family in the game. These monsters can be caught in the summer of your island’s respective hemisphere and can be found lurking in your waters during the evening to early morning.

Great White Sharks have a large shadow, with an orange-ish fin protruding from their back. You can catch your very own Jaws in the sea surrounding your island or any other island.

Selling Rare Fish

As mentioned briefly, both of these super rare fish fetch a whopping 15,000 Bells when sold to Nook’s Cranny. However, if you manage to sell them to CJ, you can get 22,500 Bells per fish.

CJ visits your island rarely, so most players who want to maximize the number of Bells they receive hold onto their rare fish. You can store them in your home inventory; however, they do not stack. Additionally, you can place fish on the ground – which can actually be used to create some interesting aquatic-themed builds!

Although these rare creatures sell for lots of Bells, we still recommend donating the first one that you catch to Blathers. Especially in the case of the Great White Shark, as it is only available during the summer. Therefore, if you forget to donate it, you could miss out on the chance to do so for an entire year!
