When Does Winter End in Animal Crossing: New Horizons?

Winter ends on February 24th if your island is in the northern hemisphere – and August 24th for those in the south. On these dates, your island will transfer to spring, which will bring back some colour to your island. The snow will disappear, and your island’s grass will turn a nice spring green. Spring also introduces seasonal items and says farewell to the winter ones.

What Are the Official Season Dates in Animal Crossing?

In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, there are four seasons that can be experienced on your island. These are spring, summer, fall, and winter. Each season changes your island a bit, such as the colour of the grass. This is done to reflect the change in temperature.

Seasons also have different events and items that are only collectible during said seasons. This also includes creatures such as fish, bugs, and those found in the sea. For instance, sharks are only catchable in the summer seasons of your respective island’s hemisphere.

Seasons have different dates depending on your island’s chosen location, however. Just like in real life, Animal Crossing’s world is separated by the northern and southern hemispheres. You choose your hemisphere when creating your island initially.

The complete list of seasons and their respective dates can be seen in the following table:

SeasonNorthern Hemisphere MonthsSouthern Hemisphere Months
SpringMarch, April, MaySeptember, October, November
SummerJune, July, AugustDecember, January, February
FallSeptember, October, NovemberMarch, April, May
WinterDecember, January, FebruaryJune, July, August

Island dates and times correspond with your Nintendo Switch’s settings. As such, you can alter these dates and times yourself if you wish to time travel. Players use this to their advantage to catch seasonal items and creatures that they otherwise would have to wait months for.

Say Goodbye to your Snowboy…

As mentioned, with winter ending your island will say goodbye to winter events. This includes the snowboy (obviously, as snow will melt) and the ice DIY recipe availabilities. Spring will bring the infamous bunny day event to your island, as well as earth day

You can of course keep snowflakes in your inventory all year, and they will not melt or disappear. The availability of winter DIY recipes however will cease. On the last few days of winter, you can collect as many snowflakes as you can so that you have enough for the rest of the year. This ensures that if you ever want to make something from the winter catalogue, you have the resources.
