There are various churches scattered throughout the lands of Elden Ring, and these hold useful items and loot. One such location is the Church of Vows, and you’ll often see yourself visiting the area to learn powerful spells. That is why this guide will help you find the Church of Vows in Elden Ring.
Though at first sight, this seems like your regular decrepit Church in Elden Ring, holding some sort of loot and a Sacred Tear. The Church of Vows, however, is more than meets the eye, and there’s much more to do than simply ransacking the area.
We’ll walk you through everything you need to know about where to find Church of Vows, from getting here to this church’s importance in Elden Ring.
How to Find the Church of Vows In Elden Ring
The Church of Vows is located in the eastern part of the Liurnia of the Lakes. Luckily, there are two ways to make it to the area. The first one is to obviously get there on foot. The other, however, is to land indirectly in the area using a teleporter.
Church of Vows Location – Getting there on Foot
After clearing Stormhill Castle, you’ll land in the swampy area of Liurnia of the Lakes. It’s easy to get lost here as the region is quite massive. To get to the Church of Vows, however, you must head up the following path. East of the swamp are cliffs and run alongside them until you cross a ruined bridge and finally reach the Eastern Liurnia Lake Shore Site of Grace.
There will be a gap between the cliffs, and at the end will be two paths; you should take the left one. After that, if you keep heading straight, you’ll come across the Eastern Tableland site of grace. You should be able to make out the church from a distance and move along the path, passing a graveyard to reach the entrance of the Church of Vows.
Teleport to the Church of Vows
An indirect way of reaching the Church of Vows is to follow a teleporter in Raya Lucaria Academy. This method is for those who went straight into it without exploring much of Liurnia. You’ll find it in the balcony west of the hallway that connects the crumbled staircase – where the metal ball spawns – with the lift that leads to Rennala.
That said, start from the Debate Parlor Site of Grace, head outside and cross the staircase while treading lightly to reach the waygate teleporter. This will send you straight to the Church of Vows.
What to do in the Church of Vows
Sure enough, you must’ve set out to the Church of Vows seeking a sacred tear. Unfortunately, there’s none here besides an invaluable NPC: Miriel, Pastor of Vows, aka our good ol’ turtle pope. You’ll also find the Gold Sewing Needle and Golden Tailoring Tools – key items to transmog your gear – inside a nearby chest.
Church of Vows: Turtle Pope
Upon setting foot in the church, you’re first greeted by its guardian: Miriel, Pastor of Vows. From the looks of it, age has caught up to him, but he has much knowledge to bestow upon us. Upon talking to him, he begins unfolding the origin of this sacred place and some interesting lore on Radagon and Marika.
Once you’re through his dialogues, Miriel then becomes a merchant and teaches you new Sorceries and Incantations. Also, he’ll gladly take from you any Prayer Books and Sorcery Scrolls you might have.
To save you some trouble, we recommend handing them to him as the turtle never moves, unlike other NPCs. This will help you keep track of all purchasable spells.
Church of Vows: Absolution
Another thing that’s hard to miss in the Church is Rennala’s statue by the pool. This is where you’re able to atone for your sins, letting you calm hostile NPCs and revive dead ones. However, the cleansing rite needs a Celestial Dew; if you happen to be carrying some, Miriel reveals their power to you.
There’s no reason to fret about NPCs getting hostile and killing as long as you’ve got these crucial items on you.
Church of Vows: Bell Bearing Hunter
Though the Church of Vows is a nice place to take a breather from your tiring journey, the calm retreat doesn’t last long as a Bell Bearing Hunter boss invades when night falls. Some players have trouble triggering this night time boss, but passing the night at another Site of Grace and fast traveling to the church’s Site of Grace should do the trick.
That said, Miriel won’t be present once you enter the church, and as you make your way to the statue, the boss spawns. The boss carries an Executioner Sword that swings out like Alucard’s from Castlevania. If you’ve come unprepared, this can be a pain to deal with.
Mages will especially have a hard time as the element of space won’t work in their favor, as the sword can easily reach them once it glows red. On the other hand, those who have mastered the art of parrying will cakewalk through it as the boss can be parried for a powerful riposte. Once down, he drops the the Meat Peddler’s Bell Bearing.
Final Thoughts
There are several churches in Elden Ring, but the Church of Vows Elden Ring holds more importance. After all, you get to meet the wise turtle pope, and that’s also where you first start atoning for your sins. Hopefully, you won’t have any problem getting there.
