Cyno Genshin Impact Build Guide

Welcome folks! Today, we are going to be discussing Cyno, The newest character release in the second half of update 3.1. We will be talking about how to build Cyno: his Ascension and Talent materials/costs, giving recommendations and thoughts on Talents, constellations, artifacts, weapons, and team comps. As always, we will begin with an introduction to the unit.

Cyno, Titled ” Judicator of Secrets”, is Sumeru Akademiya’s General Mahamatra. He is a 5-star Electro Polearm user. His kit, apart from looking all cool and badass, points towards his role as a DPS character.

A Summary

Cyno‘s main focus abilities are his Skill and Burst: These abilites work well with each other to do extra DMG with, providing reduced CDs and passive ability DMG. Travelers are recommended to build Cyno making use of both Elemental Mastery and ATK pieces of the Gilded Dreams artifact set. The White Tassel 3-star weapon at high refinement is a very good weapon for Cyno.

The following sentences provide a much more detailed build guide for Cyno, and, since we’re building up from information provided via leaks, this information is subject to change.

Cyno’s Ascension and Talent Costs/ Mats

At certain level Milestones, Cyno gains a boost in CRIT DMG, all the way to 38.4%. Cyno also gains a boost in ATK, DEF, and HP. Leveling up Cyno is an essential part of building him since this will enable you to upgrade his talents/abilities, making them much stronger.

Cyno’s Ascension Costs

You’re going to need a healthy supply of Vajrada Amethyst crystals, Scarab beetles from the deserts of Sumeru (only when 3.1 finally releases), Scrolls from Samachurls, and Thunderclap Fruitcores from the Electro Regisvines to Ascend Cyno.

Cyno’s Talents

Cyno‘s skill is a dash attack that penetrates enemies and deals DMG to all in its path, its usage is similar to that of Xiao‘s. Cyno‘s Burst transforms him, overriding his normal attack sequence and providing an Electro Infusion to his attacks, as well as switching his Skill’s DMG capability from a dash to an AoE attack. Furthermore, using this AoE attack increases his burst duration pretty significantly.

Cyno‘s Passives can increase expedition rewards from Sumeru, buff his skill DMG and also provide some extra DMG in the form of Electro projectiles. Also, they provide more buffs to his kit based on his Elemental Mastery.

Cyno’s Passive Talents

The Gift of Silence

Gains 25% more rewards when dispatched on a Sumeru Expedition for 20 hours.

Similar to Kuki Shinobu in Inazuma.

Featherfall Judgment

When Cyno is in the Pactsworn Pathclearer state activated by Sacred Rite: Wolf’s Swiftness, Cyno will enter the Endseer stance at intervals. If he activates Secret Rite: Chasmic Soulfarer while affected by this stance, he will activate the Judication effect, increasing the DMG of this Secret Rite: Chasmic Soulfarer by 35%, and firing off 3 Duststalker Bolts that deal 50% of Cyno’s ATK as Electro DMG.
Duststalker Bolt DMG is considered Elemental Skill DMG.

After using your Burst (Sacred Rite: Wolf’s Swiftness), you will gain an effect of “Judication” which allows your Skill to deal some extra DMG via a 35% DMG buff. Also, when the skill hits, 3 extra instances of DMG are dealt to your enemies in the form of Duststalker Bolts.

Authority Over the Nine Bows

Cyno’s DMG values will be increased based on his Elemental Mastery as follows:
Pactsworn Pathclearer’s Normal Attack DMG is increased by 125% of his Elemental Mastery.
Duststalker Bolt DMG from his Passive Talent Featherfall Judgment is increased by 250% of his Elemental Mastery.

This Passive is not to be ignored when building Cyno. We will discuss this further in the Artifacts Stats section.

Cyno’s Normal Attack

Cynos Charged Attack

Cyno‘s normal attack is a 4-strike sequence that deals moderate DMG. His charged attack is a lunge forward and deals DMG to all enemies along its path.

This ability does NOT need upgrades. Although the player may indulge if they feel like it.

Cyno’s Elemental Skill

Secret Rite: Chasmic Soulfarer

Cyno's E ability

A jump and forward dash attack. This ability is used differently when Cyno is in the Pactsworn Pathclearer state, it also takes up a different name: Mortuary Rite.

The player is recommended to upgrade this ability AFTER they’ve invested in Cyno‘s burst. The reason is, that the ability itself does not have very high scaling, however, Mortuary Rite is a significant part of Cyno‘s burst, so might as well upgrade it if you’re going to be using it that often.

Cyno’s Elemental Burst

Upon activation, enter the Pactsworn Pathclearer stance, gaining an Electro infusion to your normal, charged, and plunge attacks. Cyno also gains a massive 100-point boost in Elemental Mastery, and immunity to the Electrocharged reaction. Also, Cyno becomes significantly harder to interrupt in combat.

Cyno‘s burst is a fundamental part of his kit. You may liken this stance change to Childe‘s Melee stance. You may also remember that we talked about an entirely new attack sequence based on this stance (using the Normal and Charged notations) change. Similarly, Cyno‘s best attack sequence would be weaving in as many Normal to Charged Attacks before using his Skill, Mortuary Rite. Also note, with a 20s CD, the initial duration of this stance is 10s, after using Mortuary Rite a few times it can go all the way to 18s. This extension, deduce, is incredibly powerful in the right teams and weapons. The abilities Energy Cost is 80.

Cyno’s Constellations

A brief note is necessary here.. C0 Cyno is an amazing unit. Please do not feel forced to roll for a character’s constellations. They are nice to have and can boost the effectiveness of a character but aren’t worth spending real-world currency on unless you have a large reserve of expendable income.

Cyno‘s constellations are decent, offering some extra ATK SPD, CRIT Rate/DMG, and Energy to your teams.

However, if you do end up getting more constellations, congratulations! Let us get you familiar with Cyno Stella Fortuna.

Constellation Lv.1

Ordinance: Unceasing Vigil

C1
c1

This constellation increases Cyno‘s overall DPS capability. It is important to note: that this ability only affects Cyno‘s normal attacks and not his charged ones, so the player may find it easier to weave in one or two extra normal attacks before performing a charged attack. Quoting the final two lines, the player needs to make sure that their unit is leveled past 20 to make good use of this upgrade.

Constellation Lv.2

Ceremony: Homecoming of Spirits

C2
c2

Again, this constellation also prefers that Cyno uses Normal attacks over Charged attacks. A maximum of 15% CRIT Rate and 30% CRIT DMG can be accumulated thanks to this constellation.

Constellation Lv.3 + Lv.5

Precept: Lawful Enforcer + Funerary Rite: The Passing of Starlight

C3 and C5
c3 + c5

These two constellations buff the Skill and Burst talent level of every character in the Genshin world. Normally, c3 upgrades the unit’s skill and c5, your burst. However, for some characters, including Cyno, this trend is flipped. This is an important detail to note when pulling for 5-star constellations.

Constellation Lv.4

Austerity: Forbidding Guard

C4
c4

A nice QoL upgrade to have, perhaps, the traveler is making use of off-field Sub-DPS/reaction enabling characters like Xingqiu, Zhongli, Xiangling, or Kazuha/Sucrose (amongst others), this constellation should refund at least 15 energy to such team mates.

Constellation Lv.6

Raiment: Just Scales

C6
c6

You can obtain 4 stacks of the Day of the Jackal effect every time Cyno uses his skill when inside of his Burst stance. Each stack can be consumed seperately to proc extra instance of DMG via Duststalker Bolts from his passive, Featherfall Judgement. The DPS increase is pretty substantial for this constellation.

Cyno’s Best Artifact Sets

With Sumeru‘s release, it’d be foolish to not make use of the new DendroElectro reactions, Quicken and Aggravate. Because of this, Cyno‘s best artifact set could turn out to be the Gilded Dreams set. A close contender would be the Thundering Fury set. And since we’ve already learned that Cyno mainly uses his burst to ensure DPS, the Emblem of Severed Fate could serve as a temporary replacement, owing to the dilemma that not all players may have access to decent pieces of the former sets. And of course, if you do not have access to any of the sets already mentioned, the 2pc Gladiators Finale/Shimenawa’s Reminiscence can serve as viable alternates.

Gilded Dreams

Gilded Dreams
Gilded Dreams

Cyno‘s best in slot artifact. Note that to make full use of the 4pc bonus, you’ll have to keep in mind factors such as team comps, resonances, and reactions. We will discuss this in detail when discussing his teams.

Thundering Fury

Thundering Fury
Thundering Fury

Equipping this set on a unit increases their Electro DMG by 15%, and, increases DMG caused by all Electro reactions by 40%. Except, the DMG bonus conferred by Aggravate is increased by 20%. Furthermore, when a reaction is procced, your skill CD is reduced by 1s every 0.8s.

You may recall , this reduction could be much more powerful if Endseer Stance was more frequent. If HoYoverse decides to make that change, we will let you know!

Emblem of Severed Fate

Emblem of Severed Fate
Emblem of Severed Fate

This is your go-to set for characters who prefer their Burst as their main DPS source, such as the Raiden Shogun. Just make sure to stack enough ER on your character! Around 200% makes it worthwhile.

Cyno’s Best Stats on Artifact Sets

A good, balanced stat build for Cyno would include CRIT Rate/DMG (in a 1:2 ratio) on your circlet. An Electro DMG % goblet and an Elemental Mastery main stat on your sands.

A complete EM build could also work if you’re using the beastly Staff of Scarlet Sands weapon. That is, EM circlet, goblet and sands.

Cyno’s Best Weapons

Without a doubt, Cyno‘s signature weapon, the Staff of Scarlet Sands is his best in slot weapon. You’ll also be pleased to hear that Cyno has multiple polearms that can work on him. Dragon’s Bane, Deathmatch, Primordial Jade-Winged Spear, Staff of Homa, Wavebreaker’s Fin, Moonpiercer, White Tassel, and “The Catch” are all viable candidates. However, for the sake of readability and relevance, we will only discuss a select few.

Staff of Scarlet Sands

Staff of Scarlet Sands

This weapon does not have the best base ATK, agreed. But, the passive bonus coupled with the HUGE CRIT Rate % makes the user of this weapon, Cyno, a godly DPS machine.

To make good use of the passive ability, make sure to use your skill as many times as possible when in Burst Stance.

Moonpiercer

Moon Piercer
Moonpiercer

This polearm is a decent f2p weapon option for Cyno. The Base ATK goes up to 565, and the EM can reach 110 points. The passive can give your on-field character 16% more ATK for 20s, which is perfect, considering Cyno‘s CDs.

Of course, equipping this weapon and using it effectively demands attention from the traveler in terms of team comps, since reactions are an important part of the effective usability of this weapon.

White Tassel

White Tassel
White Tassel

This weapon at r5 is the best bet for f2p players. The CRIT Rate amounts to 23.4% at Lv.90 and the Base ATK caps at 401. Considering the number of primogems you’ve already spent on the game it’s safe to assume that most players have at least 5 copies of this weapon on hand.

The Passive Normal Attack buff extends to Cyno‘s Burst’s as well, making this weapon contest some of the 5-star options. We will be sure to release a full weapons ranking soon when the character is fully out and players have a chance to play around with him more!

Cyno’s Best Teams

Cyno will be your team’s main source of DMG. So, it is important to craft teams around this role, thinking about any Sub DPS or Support/Utility roles. Of course, it is also necessary to keep in mind the artifact and weapon build you’re running on Cyno. With that out of the way, let us give you our team/unit recommendations!

If you’re equipping the Gilded Dreams set, it will benefit you to choose at least one other Electro Battery to ensure Cyno is gaining Energy when attacking. Characters like Raiden Shogun or Fischl at c6 can fill in this role swimmingly. You can even gain some extra DPS using these two insanely powerful characters.

To consistently proc the Quicken and Aggravate reactions, a Dendro character like the traveler or Collei will work excellently, even more so, considering that their Dendro application abilities can work from off-field.

Your fourth character can be any support, to be honest. Kokomi could work wonders in your team, consistently applying off-field Hydro and proccing Electrocharged and Hyperbloom reactions. Bennett is just universally good, slap on the Noblesse set and an Energy Recharge sword and there you have the most broken support character in the entire game! Zhongli can apply an unbreakable shield, summon a powerful burst, and, shred your opponents’ Elemental Resistance, making him a viable 4th character as well.

We highly, highly encourage the player to try out their own variants and combinations of teams, playstyles, artifact sets and whatnot. Our articles exist to guide, not to bind the player when making their decisions!
