Travelers know best that Genshin Impact is filled with aesthetic characters that simply shine through their signature attributes and personalities. Beyond their official roles and backgrounds, we sometimes can’t help but admit that two characters could make a lovely couple. Our ‘shipping’ tendencies even go out of control when the game somewhat hints at romance with the slightest quest interactions. Yep, we’re talking about one of the most raved Genshin Impact ships during the recent lantern rite.
As of now, there’s no official romance or platonic relationships in-game between playable characters. The Hangout Events for 4-star characters are the closest the game can get right now to dating simulation games. However, that doesn’t stop Travellers from making the most adorable character ships we’d love to become official. Storylines aside, there’s definitely a spark between some of the most iconic duos in this RPG.
With that, we prepared the best non-canon or unofficial Genshin Impact ships loved by many Travelers! Get to know these characters’ backgrounds and why they make such a great fit for each other.
The first on our list is also perhaps the first and earliest Genshin Impact ship we’ve witnessed as the game started. During the Act II of the Mondstadt Chapter, we’ve seen Jean and Diluc first interact at his tavern called Angel’s Share. Admittedly, we all got curious when Jean, the Acting Grandmaster of the Knights of Favonius, addressed Diluc as ‘sir.’ This came from the fact that Diluc once served as Jean’s superior back when he was still affiliated with the knights.
Their histories aside, both Jean and Diluc project a mature yet elegant demeanor. While Jean is much kinder and more approachable, Diluc keeps a stern and unimpressed vibe. Both of them also came from the esteemed clans of Gunnhildr and Ragnvindr, respectively. They make a perfect classy couple given how well they already know each other and their similar backgrounds. By color scheme, they also look like parents to Klee, although we know that Alice is Klee’s biological mother.
Hydro and Cryo have never paired so perfectly until Xingqiu and Chongyun became the best of friends. Xingqiu, being the second son of the Guild Manager of the established Feiyun Commerce Guild in Liyue, comes from a noble background. On the other hand, Chongyun comes from a family of exorcists and is actually Shenhe’s nephew based on this Character Demo. We’ve seen them together in lots of official photos, in-game quests, and storylines. The way Xingqiu also pulls pranks on Chongyun makes them an adorable pairing.
Have we also mentioned that Xingqiu and Chongyun have tassels on their Visions? Although not announced by the developers, the duo apparently gifted each other tassels, an Amber for Xingqiu and a symbolic Knot for Chongyun, as a symbol of their friendship. You can read more about it on this Twitter thread. We’ll leave it to Travelers on whether this pair has a platonic or more intimate relationship.
Indeed, opposites attract with Arataki Itto and Kujou Sara’s contrasting personalities. Itto, the leader of Arataki Gang and a descendant of the Oni bloodline, is seen as a mischievous and high-spirited male who’s not particularly intelligent. On the other hand, Kujou Sara, a general of the Tenryou Commission, is known to be sharp, stern, and mature. In Itto’s storylines, he shared that his two unforgettable defeats were against a tengu, which was later found out to be Kujou Sara on both occasions. Since then, Itto has always been determined to fairly win against the adopted daughter of the Kujou Clan.
Both Itto and Sara were orphaned at a young age. Aside from their stories, their interesting interactions and non-human bloodlines leave Travelers waiting for romance to officially bloom. Although not exactly enemies to lovers, they would definitely make an amazing power couple with their extreme battles.
Apparently, even alchemy can experiment with romance due to Albedo and Sucrose’s lovable chemistry. Albedo, the Chief Alchemist of the Knights of Favonius, is assisted by Sucrose, a rather awkward alchemist specializing in bio-alchemy. Due to their professional relationship, Sucrose often addresses Albedo ‘Mister Albedo,’ which the latter finds stubborn and unnecessary since they’re around the same age. Aside from being highly intelligent and devoted in their works, both Albedo and Sucrose are introverted and avoid socialization for certain reasons. However, Albedo has admitted that working with Sucrose has been “quite pleasant.”
With their similar personalities and interests in alchemy, it’s easy to see why the AlbeCrose ship is popular among fans. Back in the Windblume Festival, we also remember Albedo making a recipe of the Wondrous Lovely Flower for Sucrose. He even added that the “Big Sweet Flower” does remind him of Sucrose and her favorites. A sweet gesture, right?
Focusing on the protagonist herself, one of the most popular ships of Lumine is with Xiao, an adeptus and the only remaining Yaksha summoned by Rex Lapis. Due to his suffering from the karmic debt, Xiao is known to seclude himself from mortal affairs but has vowed to protect Liyue. However, ever since the female Traveler and Paimon got closer to him in the Wangshu Inn, the adeptus became more relaxed. We remember that Xiao even watched the Mingxiao Lanterns float during the first Lantern Rite. Also, during the fight against Osial in the Jade Chamber, Xiao has saved the Traveller from falling, told her to be careful, and even gently squeezed her hand. It just shows that Xiao deeply cares about Lumine.
Xiao and Lumine make the perfect couple with Xiao protecting her and Lumine comforting him. If you have Xiao in your Serenitea Pot, he would even say that the pain from his karmic debt became easier to bear when Lumine appeared in his life.
The only popular ship between a playable and an unseen character is between Zhongli and Guizhong. As we all know, Zhongli is a wise consultant for the Wangsheng Funeral Parlor. However, he is also the retired Morax or Rex Lapis who ruled over Liyue. Prior to the Archon War, Morax partnered with the God of Dust named Guizhong, complementing his brawn with her brains. Guizhong established the Guili Assembly together with Morax and Marchosius and engineered the Guizhong Ballista. Unfortunately, she was one of the fatalities during the Archon War. However, her legacy remains with the Memory of Dust, which served as a proof of pledge she gifted to Zhongli.
Guizhong had apparently fallen in the same field of Glaze Lilies she first met Morax. In the description of Glaze Lilies, it is likely that the person who loved the flower more than any other was Guizhong herself. Sadly, while this ship can never become official, it still lives in many Travelers’ hearts due to its tragic romance potential.
While we may never see the GuiLi ship set sail, Zhongli and Ningguang are an ideal pair that give us the same excitement. Ningguang, the Tianquan of Liyue Qixing, is a wealthy and calculating businesswoman who rose from poverty. Aside from her intelligence, what makes her even more interesting is her resemblance to Guizhong. Many Travelers have speculated that Ningguang might be the late God’s reincarnation. With her constellation resembling the Guizhong Ballista and with how she replicated this machine to battle Osial, it’s possible that she may have the same wits as Guizhong. Furthermore, aside from Yun Jin, Ningguang is the only character that uses Glazy Lilies as an Ascension Material. Additionally, the catalyst weapon Memory of Dust of Guizhong only fits Ningguang’s skillset and aesthetic.
Even if we leave Guizhong out of the equation, Zhongli and Ningguang still look perfect for each other. With Zhongli as the Geo Archon and Ningguang ruling over Liyue as the Tianquan, the two Geo characters would definitely look like the royalties of Liyue. We also think that they would never run out of conversation topics given how knowledgeable these two are.
One of the newest Genshin Impact ships on our list is AyaTher. Kamisato Ayaka, the eldest daughter of the Kamisato Clan, is loved by the citizens of Inazuma due to her courteous and pleasant personality. Given her noble upbringing, Ayaka considered Thoma as her only friend. However, things have changed when she met the Traveler, or in this case, Aether. From her storylines, we would know that she’s always wanted a friend who would look at her beyond her noble status. During her story quest, Ayaka explicitly considered Aether as that friend, even presenting him a mesmerizing fan dance before they parted. She also gifted him a white heron hairpin at the end of her quest
While we know that Ayaka has been raised differently and is quite unfamiliar with friendships, her actions definitely implied that she might have a crush on Aether. With the ‘rich girl wanting to become normal’ trope, their wholesome synergy is a classic type of romance waiting to unfold.
Arguably, ChiLumi is one of the most popular Genshin Impact ships we’ve seen that involves a hero and a villain. There’s no point denying that Childe or Tartaglia, the 11th Fatui Harbinger, does sweep Travelers off their feet, especially with his famous ‘Hey girlie, hold still’ line. Despite being a major antagonist, Childe does show a casual and friendly relationship with the Traveler. In fact, during his story quest, we found out through his younger brother Teucer that Childe actually writes about Lumine to his family in Snezhnaya. He has even stated that if an opportunity comes, he would quit his job and join Lumine in her adventures in Teyvat. Lumine must’ve been so convincing that she made a villain rethink his choices.
The enemies-to-lovers trope works perfectly with Lumine and Childe, which makes them even more ‘shippable.’ If Childe is also your teapot companion, he would even say that ‘If you joined me on my path to world domination, we would be unstoppable.’ Also, have we shared that the ChiLumi ship has already sailed in the Japanese Genshin Impact manga anthology? Be sure to check it out because Childe and Lumine have already gone on a date!
The last on our list is likely the most hyped Genshin Impact ship lately. We all know Beidou as the captain of The Crux who boldly violates the laws of the Liyue Qixing. In particular, she’s at odds with Ningguang who orders her to pay large sums of Mora as a penalty. However, we all know their special moment during the 2.4 Lantern Rite cutscene in the newly built Jade Chamber. There, we saw how elegant Ningguang looked in her outfit ‘Orchid’s Evening Gown’ that she even captured the attention of Beidou. Ningguang was indeed ‘looking pretty fancy’ in the eyes of Beidou and all Travelers. Moreover, despite their differences and occupations, several official Genshin Impact content would show them spending their leisure time together.
The BeiGuang ship is probably the closest Genshin Impact ship to become official and fit seamlessly into the game’s storyline. Their ‘opposites attract’ trope and their unique dynamic make them a fantastic pairing in the game. Hopefully, the makers of Genshin Impact will soon give light on their odd yet interesting relationship. This ship will definitely sail better than The Crux and all Waveriders combined!
