Look, no one likes carry weight in RPGs, and it becomes especially annoying when you like to loot everything. It’s a tedious part of inventory management that can get in the way of enjoyment. It’s no different in Baldur’s Gate 3, but you can dramatically increase your carry weight using this very useful mod.
Increase Carry Weight in Baldur’s Gate 3
This mod by NexusMods user Avalonica doesn’t remove the carry weight, but massively increases it so you don’t have to worry about it again. There are a few options, but the recommended one basically multiplies it by a thousand so you’re basically set for the full game.
How To Install the Mod
Installing the mod is a bit tedious, and you need to install Baldur’s Gate 3 Mod Manager and the “Full Release Mod Fixer” for this to work. I’ll walk you through each step, and explain what worked for me.
Here is the overview of the steps you will follow.
- Set up Baldur’s Gate 3 Mod Manager: This will allow you to activate the mod
- Download the mod file: Where and how you can download the mod file
- Download the mod fixer: This is required for the launch version of Baldur’s Gate 3
- Installing the mod: Using the Mod Manager, we’ll activate the mod
- Edit the Mod Settings file: The final step, which is necessary for the launch version
Here are the steps in detail.
Set Up Baldur’s Gate 3 Mod Manager
- Head over to the following GitHub link to access the latest versions of the Mod Manager
- Click on BDModManager_Latest.zip under Assets of the latest version
- This will download the Mod Manager zip file
- Extract that into a folder that you will routinely access
- You can now launch the Mod Manager using the BG3ModManager.exe
Downloading the Mod
- Sign-up on NexusMods, so that you can download the mod files
- Install Winrar or 7zip, to extract compressed files
- Head over to the following link to download the Mod
- Click on Manual Download (Don’t click on Mod Manager Download)
- This will download a zip file
Download the Full Release Mod Fixer
Since the game is out now, you will need the “Full Release Mod Fixer” for this mod to work. The game won’t run without it.
- Head over to the following link to download the mod fixer
- Click on Manual Download
- This will download a zip file, which you need to extract in the Mods folder
- Open Windows Run by either pressing Windows + R keys together or by searching for it in Windows Search
- Enter the following address, and press OK
AppData\Local\Larian Studios\Baldur's Gate 3\Mods
- This will take you to the Mods folder
- Place the mod fixer zip file you downloaded in this folder, and extract it
Installing the Mod
Next, we need to install and activate the mod using Baldur’s Gate 3 Mod Manager.
- Head back to the Mods folder as explained above, and place the mod (Carry Weight Tweaks) zip file here
- Extract it
- Now, launch Baldur’s Gate 3 Mod Manager
- Drag the mod from the inactive list to the active (right to left) as shown below
Edit the modsettings.lsx File
Next, we need to edit the modsettings.lsx file, which is very important. If you don’t follow this step, the game will crash before the Main Menu. You will have to do this for every new mod you install.
- In Windows Run, enter the following location
AppData\Local\Larian Studios\Baldur's Gate 3\PlayerProfiles\Public
- Now, open the modsettings.lsx file using a text editor like Notepad, or Notepad++
- Now, you need to focus on the following section
- Add the following code under <children>
<node id="ModuleShortDesc">
<attribute id="Folder" type="LSString" value="GustavDev"/>
<attribute id="MD5" type="LSString" value=""/>
<attribute id="Name" type="LSString" value="GustavDev"/>
<attribute id="UUID" type="FixedString" value="28ac9ce2-2aba-8cda-b3b5-6e922f71b6b8"/>
<attribute id="Version64" type="int64" value="36028797018963968"/>
</node>
- It should look like this after you are done
- Save the file and exit out
Now, if you have followed the steps properly, the mod will work in-game, which can be confirmed in the inventory. You will also get a prompt at the start alerting you that achievements won’t work with the mod enabled.
We hope this guide was helpful, and that you were able to increase the carry weight in Baldur’s Gate 3 using this mod. If you have any questions, feel free to ask those below.
