The PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series S|X have been out for almost a year now. Both systems have had various new releases, but the pandemic has pushed a lot of titles to next year. Consoles have had a long history with jailbreaking, and this is something we have come to expect with each system. It was only a matter of time before the security of PlayStation 5 was breached. Here is why the PS5 jailbreak could be happening sooner than expected.

All previous Sony consoles have been breached in one form or another, so it isn’t surprising in the least that the PS5 has been comprised. It will be interesting to see how Sony responds to this, and what measures they will take to combat this.

PS5 Jailbreak

The speculation for this comes from two key events that have happened in the past day or so. First, famed scene hacker, Andy Nguyen aka TheFloW, who has previously helped Sony in finding vulnerabilities in their systems, as well as developing homebrews. Here is what he recently shared on Twitter.

As you can see, there’s a Debug Settings option in the PS5 Settings screen shown above. This is something a consumer will never have access to unless they are authorized, or have breached it. He has stated that he has no plans for disclosure, in a follow-up tweet.

The story doesn’t end here though, as the hacking team fail0verflow that gained popularity for initially hacking the PS3 system for the first time, have shared something as well.

This is another hint at the PS5’s security breach. This means that hacking groups will soon create homebrews, and other ways to manipulate the PS5 software, and hardware in the future.

It’s pretty impressive that these groups are making progress in this after just a year of the launch.

What do you make of all these security breaches? Let us know in the comments below, and share your thoughts.
