These two Destiny 2 Gunnora’s Axe god rolls are exceptional. It’s rare that a weapon has top-tier rolls for PvE and PvP, but that’s exactly what Gunnora’s Axe is offering. In PvE, it’s capable of blasting Champions for stupid damage, all the while offering some of the best Add-clear in the entire game. In PvP, it’s a slug-frame shotgun that can easily reach 100 range. If you like slug-frames, you get why that’s good. If you don’t, this shotgun isn’t for you in the Crucible, to begin with.

I’m going to go through both of these Destiny 2 Gunnora’s Axe god rolls perk-by-perk. I’ll explain my choice for each perk slot, and offer up alternatives where some exist. Remember – these are my god rolls, but Gunnora’s Axe has a ton of S-tier options. If you don’t like any of my decisions, change them – you’re allowed to do that.

  • Extended Barrel
  • Accurized Rounds
  • Slickdraw
  • Voltshot

You wouldn’t typically think that something like Voltshot would be good on a shotgun, but that’s exactly what I’m running on this Gunnora’s Axe god roll. Not only is this weapon phenomenal for dealing with majors, but it’s got some of the best Add-clear you’re going to get out of a special weapon – it gives the Ikelos SMG a run for its money.

There’s some technical stuff to talk about, but before that, I want to go over Extended Barrel and Accurized Rounds quickly. This particular version of Gunnora’s Axe has 97 range with a range Masterwork – which is a hell of a lot. Extended Barrel is a contributor to that, and we don’t have to worry about the handling hit because we’re running Slickdraw.

Accurized Rounds also adds to this ludicrous range, as well. It’s very much best in class for column two, but with Extended Barrel and a range Masterwork, you can get away with not running it – if you’re unfortunate enough to get this roll without it. If you do have the option of running it, though, I highly recommend you do.

I don’t have too much experience with Slickdraw. The perk’s description tells you that it significantly raises your handling but at the cost of target acquisition (who cares about that in PvE?).  How significantly? It sets your Gunnora’s Axe to 100 handling, and it keeps it there – even with the negative handling we get from Extended Barrel. There are other great options in this perk column – Hip-Fire GripThreat Detector, and Auto-Loading Holster are all viable options, but none of them put in the same kind of work that Slickdraw does.

Last, but certainly not least, we have Voltshot. You should be intimately familiar with how Voltshot works at this point. Assuming that, I’m going to guess you’re wondering why it’s making a such fuss on a shotgun. Voltshot is an Add-clear perk, and shotguns are not Add-clear weapons. Well, reloading just one pellet into Gunnora’s Axe is going to reproc Voltshot, as opposed to the whole mag like other weapons.

This makes this Gunnora’s Axe god roll have ludicrous up-time on Voltshot, resulting in some seriously easy Add-clear. That’s not why everyone is raving over this thing, though. It just so happens that Gunnora’s Axe has the highest Jolt tick damage in the game as of Season of the Seraph. In other words, not only is it going to wipe Adds, it’s going to delete majors, too.

Putting this entire Gunnora’s Axe PvE god roll together, you’ve got a phenomenally fast weapon capable of outputting stupid damage at a moment’s notice.

  • Fluted Barrel
  • Accurized Rounds
  • Surplus
  • Iron Reach

Gunnora’s Axe is a slug-frame shotgun. If slug-frames aren’t your cup of tea, then you’re not going to enjoy using this thing in the Crucible. If you are a slug-frame fan, though, then you’re in for a treat.

The biggest focus of this Gunnora’s Axe god roll is our range. We have several ways of reaching 100 range on this thing, meaning you’ll be killing Guardians you have no right even touching. Our barrel, Fluted Barrel, doesn’t contribute to that, though.

Fluted Barrel gives us 5 stability and 15 handling, which is a nice bump that tries to mitigate some of the stat losses we take later on down the perk list. If you’re not running Slickdraw in PvE, Fluted Barrel is also a good alternative to Extended Barrel there.

Accurized Rounds is the only perk staying the same between the PvE and PvP god rolls, and that should surprise absolutely nobody. It’s a flat 10 range, which is great on pretty much everything – especially shotguns. If you’re running a range-based barrel on this roll, you might be able to get away with something else, but there are no strong alternatives in column two.

Column three has a few different options – all of which are great. I’ve opted for Surplus on this roll purely because of how ability-heavy the META is right now. It’s going to give us stability, reload speed, and handling for each charged ability we have – making up for our column four perk slightly. If you’re not a Surplus fan, Moving Target, Hip-Fire Grip, Auto-Loading Holster, and Threat Detector are all usable alternatives.

I’ve talked about making up for our column four perk, and that’s because we’re running with Iron ReachIron Reach is a perk exclusive to Iron Banner weapons. It gives us a whopping 20 range, but at the cost of 30 stability – hence Fluted Barrel and Surplus.

If you put that all together with a range Masterwork, you’ll end up with a 100-range Gunnora’s Axe. If you don’t get the correct Masterwork, swap out Fluted Barrel for your ranged barrel of choice.

It’s important to note that you don’t need 100 range to do bits with this Gunnora’s Axe god roll. Its ability to be pushed into that upper range tier is enough, regardless of if you land on the full 100, or something around 80. Out of every Iron Banner weapon we’ve got in Season of the Seraph – this may be the only one actually worth grinding for, both for PvE and PvP players.

Destiny 2 How to Get Gunnora’s Axe

Gunnora’s Axe is an Iron Banner weapon. So, naturally, the only way for you to get it is to play Iron Banner. You’ll get Gunnora’s Axe as an occasional reward for finishing a game, as well as a drop from Iron Engrams.

Once you’ve gotten your first random Gunnora’s Axe and unlocked it in your collections, you’ll be able to focus your Iron Engrams into it at Saladin for:

  • 100 Legendary Shards
  • 20,0000 Glimmer
  • 1 Iron Engram

That focusing guarantees you a Gunnora’s Axe – but nothing else. You’ll still have a grind ahead of you to get the roll you’re looking for, though.

Still, that’s the fastest way to get Gunnora’s Axe in Destiny 2. Play a ton of Iron Banner, and focus all your Engrams. It’s not painless, but it’s better than total RNG.
